PRESS RELEASE
Mimosa
Blending French lounge, West Coast swing and Brazilian Sambas,
Mimosa is an eclectic quartet that likes to seduce its audience
in more ways than one. They present their captivating compositions
with pizzazz, charm and an enviable joie de vivre, while at the
same time incorporating exciting and impressive improvisations
throughout.
The band features Rebecca Shoichet, vocals, Anna Lumiere on keyboards,
Karen Graves on flute and saxophones, and John Raham on drums.
Rebecca is a young yet incredibly mature vocalist who has toured
with bands as diverse as Amanda Marshall, Tom Cochrane, Johnny
Ferreira and the Swing Machine, and Vancouver’s new hip-hop sensation
Kia Kadiri. Her experience in musical theatre (she has just finished
a run at the playhouse for Joni Mitchell: River) and acting guarantee
a performance that’s both musically riveting and visually enchanting.
Anna Lumiere is the leader and main composer of Mimosa and her
energy on the keyboards are bound to move you. She combines virtuosity
and spontaneity while performing the role of two musicians at
once. Not only the keyboardist of Mimosa, her left hand is also
the bassist. Karen Graves is well known in Vancouver as being
one of this city’s most-in-demand horn players. Though perhaps
best known for her work in Mother of Pearl, she has performed
with numerous ensembles (Joelle Rabu, the Temptations, Marylin
Lerner, Maynard Ferguson, Joelle Leandre etc). Her playing is
gutsy and passionate. John Raham is a fabulous drummer with a
touring resume covering Europe, Canada and the United States.
He is the rhythmic backbone of Mimosa, and the one responsible
for an audience that wants to sit still but just can’t…
